Dialogues on Knowledge in Society is a journal that explores the connection between Knowledge and Development in the Indian context. It is premised on the belief that there is a close connection between the choices one makes of the Knowledge paradigms, including Sciences and Technologies, and the paths of Development being chosen ; the two can not be chosen entirely independent of each other. In our context, there are two broad paradigms and traditions of Knowledge and Practice that have existed in the country in a fairly widespread manner – the Indigenous/Traditional and the Western/Modern.The Journal is devoted to understanding these two streams of Knowledge at the levels of their theories and practices, along with the processes that have been taking place at the interface between them for nearly two hundred years. Also explored will be how best these two streams can today contribute to serving our society and nation, either on their own, or in partnership with each other. The understanding that we develop through these studies and explorations would strive to go beyond Physical/Material metrics alone, but would include considerations of Equity, Justice and Compassion. The Statement on the journal dwells more on these issues.

It is not expected that the articles in the Journal would have full agreement among themselves on the different
perceptions and standpoints that are certain to come up; the Journal is meant more as a platform for inclusive
debates and discussions among those who broadly share the outlook on the Knowledge question set out in the
earlier paragraph, as well as in the larger Statement on the Journal. Ideally each article should be able to initiate a
discussion around its contents carried out through the “Comments” facility provided at the end of the paper, both in
its online as well as PDF versions. Such comments and responses can go on in the form of discussion threads as
the articles will always be available on the website under “Archives”. It is hoped that, over time, there would be a
number of such threads of discussion being carried out simultaneously on the Journal website. Comments and
responses would be posted only after it is seen and approved by a Moderating Team of the Steering Committee.

Some specifics:

  • The Journal will be entirely Online, with the goal being to bring out 4 issues per year to start with.

  • Articles for publication are expected to have a bearing on the Knowledge question; it is expected that topics would be presented and discussed from a Knowledge standpoint.

  • In general, merely commenting on materials published elsewhere will not be acceptable as an article, unless it contributes some original thought or interpretation to it.

  • It would be good if the articles are kept under 1000 words, though wherever essential, the size can go upto about 4000 words. If the author has material going beyond this size, a link will be provided to where the entire work can be seen.

  • Other than English, articles in Indian languages will also be accepted, and an English summary of the same would be provided.

  • A readership list will be maintained, and the PDF s of new issues will be emailed to them, along with a pointer to the journal web site where the articles can also be seen online. Those not in the readership list may join the same using the “Subscribe” button on the Home Page.

  • Articles submitted to the Journal should not have been published elsewhere, and the authors are solely responsible for all copyright related issues for materials published in their name in our journal.

  • The decision to accept or reject an article rests entirely with the Editorial Board of the Journal which presently is the same as its Steering Committee.

Articles for consideration should be emailed to dksjournal.ppst@gmail.com in an editable format (.doc, .odt etc), along with its PDF version.
